CA-48: I support Steve Young. So should you! Here's why.

[CROSS-POSTED FROM MY DKOS DIARY]

On Saturday I attended the Red/Blue summit in Irvine, CA, sponsored by DFA.  I had the opportunity to meet quite a few people, including the candidates running for the CA-48 open seat in Orange County vacated by Chris Cox' nomination to the SEC.

You'd never expect to meet a candidate that not only supports your exact policy positions, but states them eloquently and dynamically, with energy, enthusiasm and sincerity--and then talks to you personally for 20 minutes despite his busy schedule to hear your concerns and ideas.

But now I have met that candidate--and that candidate is Steve Young.  More below.

Simply put, Steve Young is such a better candidate than the other ones I met it's not even funny.  Let me list the ways:

  1. he agrees with us on Iraq, unlike the other candidates who are apparently, best as I could tell, committed to "staying the course."

  2. he hammered the point on the national debt and the Chinese purchases of U.S. treasury bonds as a NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE.  Finally!  I've been waiting for a candidate to come out and say it--Steve Young did, and he will in the election.

  3. he supports the little guy and the middle class.  That's his main campaign platform.  He talks about the trust-busting days of Teddy Roosevelt, and how it's time for a second round of that in this country.  The people matter to him, not the corporate donors.

  4. he wants to be accountable to you.  The other candidates want to get their contributions from the business community.  He wants YOU, the people and the blogosphere, to support his campaign, because he wants to be able to represent you, not them.

  5. He's the right candidate for the area.  We've talked extensively about this on the blogosphere: finding the right candidate for each area.  Steve Young is the right man.  I live in Los Angeles, and I'm familiar with the Orange County area and its people.  Steve Young can definitely appeal to them in the same way that Paul Hackett appealed to the voters in OH-02.

  6. PAUL HACKETT'S CAMPAIGN TEAM IS WORKING FOR HIM!!! WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW??

PLEASE SUPPORT STEVE YOUNG!!  He's by far the best candidate, and in my many years of campaigning for and meeting candidates, I haven't met one I was more impressed with in a long time.

I'd love to see the blogosphere get as excited about Steve Young as we were about Paul Hackett.

The election is October 4, so let's get the support rolling in STARTING NOW, PEOPLE!!!

message appreciated, but... (none / 0)

...my bottom line is that I'm not prepared to support a candidate long-distance (through financial contribution, the only way I can) until there's only one left on our side (i.e., one Democrat).  Don't care if that happens through a primary, or through everyone else dropping out.  Too hard (and not enough time) to be steeped in the local issues from here to make a proxy decision about which Democrat I'd like to see move forward.  I wouldn't have supported Hackett until he won the primary, either.

Re: message appreciated, but... (none / 0)

Understood.  Just so you know, it's an open primary in Orange County on October 4.  I've met the other candidates too, and Steve Young is by far the best-qualified.  Hopefully the other candidates will either withdraw their registrations or drop out along the way.

Another man with the same name. His innovative website is not finished yet, but you can get a good feel for him at Steve Young for Congress. His new site is using technology that will allow him to actually walk onto the screen like they do on network shows. It's the first time it's been used in this way. So,unfortunately, it's taking longer than expected.

But this will give you a quick view of his style and substance.

We will have more for you soon.
